The Hamburg Spring Fair transforms the Heiligengeistfeld into a place that smells of roasted almonds in the spring for four weeks, where the sounds of roller coasters can be heard and flashing rides can be seen. It is the first of three major fairs of the year – and at the same time, it marks the start of the season.

What makes the Spring Fair in Hamburg so unique?

Around 250 exhibitors provide a varied program of rides, food stalls, gaming booths, and classic festival moments. Popular perennial favorites like the Ferris wheel, "Break Dancer," Wild Mouse, and haunted houses are present every year.

What makes the Spring Fair special is its pronounced family focus. Many offerings are tailored for children, especially on Wednesdays – Family Day, with discounted prices and special promotions. In addition, there are changing firework nights, a traditional giant flea market, and special themes like the historic carousel or themed areas with nostalgic rides.

An advantage: Admission to the fairground is free. You only pay for what you actually use – rides, food, or games. This makes the visit flexible and also easy to do spontaneously.
 

Note: The other two fair events are the Hamburg Summer Fair and the Hamburg Winter Fair. There is no fair in autumn!

2. The Cathedral without a Church: The name "Cathedral" originates from the former Hamburg Mariendom, where annual fairs took place on its grounds in the 11th century. The church is long gone – but the name remains.
3. Ferris Wheel with a Harbor View: On clear days, the view from the Cathedral Ferris Wheel extends to the Elbphilharmonie – and sometimes even into the harbor itself.
4. The first DOM of the year: Usually from the end of March to the end of April, it officially kicks off the Hamburg fair season.
5. Weather Wildcard: The Spring DOM is the only one where you can experience both thick jackets and T-shirt weather – all in the same visit.
6. Easter Highlights: When the Spring DOM takes place over Easter, there are often special activities: Easter egg hunts, walking acts in bunny costumes, or special decorations – especially a hit with children.
7. Premiere Festival: Many showmen use the Spring DOM to set up their new attractions for the first time – a kind of test run before the Summer DOM with fresh concepts or designs.
8. Instagram Spot with Cherry Blossoms: Around the Heiligengeistfeld, especially at the entrance to Feldstraße, cherry trees often bloom in spring – the perfect backdrop for a selfie in front of the DOM Ferris Wheel.
9. Spring Snacks with Cult Status: Besides classics like fried pastries or sausages, seasonal specials can often be found at the Spring DOM – e.g. asparagus dishes, fruity punches, or vegan spring rolls.
10. DOM as a Running Route: Early in the morning, when there is no operation yet, some locals and athletes use the Heiligengeistfeld along with the DOM backdrop as a running route.

For those who simply want to stroll or grab a bite to eat, there is plenty of space and options to spend an evening in a relaxed manner. **Older adults** also find enjoyment – with calm rides, seating areas, and traditional stalls.

Good to know: The area is wheelchair accessible and wide enough for wheelchairs or strollers – except during peak times.

 

Tip: Rides are significantly cheaper on Wednesdays – ideal for families or groups. Some stalls additionally offer stamp promotions or discounts for multiple rides.
