Stintfang Vineyard – Hamburg's northernmost vineyard with a harbor view

At Stintfang, a 26-meter high elevation above the St. Pauli Landing Bridges, a very special green spot has been created since 1995: a historical vineyard, initiated as a gift from Stuttgart. It is nestled between a youth hostel, the Old Elbpark, and the bustling harbor. In the midst of the urban landscape, Hamburg's only wine grows here - a piece of local enjoyment in the heart of the city.

What makes the Stintfang vineyard so special?

The vineyard unites nature, history, and community connection: Since its beginnings as a gift for the partnership between cities, wine has been growing here in close proximity to the harbor. The steep south-facing location, combined with well-drained soil, makes the site ideal for the Regent grape – a variety that is resistant to the northern German climate. The view over the harbor basin, landing bridges, and the mouth of the Elbe makes this place an idyllic retreat amid the urban hustle and bustle.

At the same time, the vineyard is a piece of communal craftsmanship: A friendship circle of Swabian winemakers and volunteers tends to the vines. The grape harvest is also a festive occasion – often during the wine village or as part of public events. Only about 30 to 50 bottles of cuvée are produced per vintage, and these find their way as gifts or into social projects – they are not intended for sale. After a construction pause in 2019, the vineyard was replanted with new vines in 2022 – thereby bringing a piece of southern German culture back to the north.

Insider tip: Visit shortly after the planting in spring – the fresh shoots in the morning light with a harbor panorama provide a charming photo opportunity.
