The Elbe beach begins in the charming neighbourhood of Övelgönne, which you can easily reach by taking tram line 62 from the Landungsbrücken. Even the journey across the water is an experience in itself. Once you arrive in Övelgönne, the museum harbour with its historic ships that tell of Hamburg's maritime past awaits you.
A highlight on the beach is the Old Swede boulder. This 217-tonne boulder was discovered during dredging work in the Elbe in 1999 and has been a permanent fixture on the shore ever since. With a circumference of almost 20 metres, it is impossible to miss and makes a great photo motif for your memories.
If you stroll further along the beach, you will come to Hans-Leip-Ufer. This section is named after the poet of the world-famous song "Lili Marleen" and offers you a less frequented area where you can listen to the sound of the waves in peace and let your gaze wander over the passing ships.
Für the physical well-being provides the legendäre Strandperle, a kiosk right on the water. Hamburgers and visitors meet here to enjoy the sunset with a cool drink. A little further west you will reach Teufelsbrück. The name comes from an old legend that tells of a trick used to trick the devil. Today, you can discover the statue of the grinning Lucifer with a rabbit in his hand here, which commemorates this story.
For dog owners, the Falkensteiner Ufer offers a special area where four-legged friends can run around off the lead to their heart's content. This section between Blankenese and Rissen is less frequented and offers plenty of space for long walks with your dog.
Secret tip: If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, visit the Elbe beach in the early hours of the morning. The sunrise over the Elbe bathes the scenery in a magical light and you have the beach almost to yourself
Tip: Take the line 62 ferry from the Landungsbrücken to Övelgönne. With an HVV ticket, you can enjoy the journey at no extra cost and get a short harbour tour at the same time.
